Confederate Air Force (CAF) |
|
I was thinking that with all the other countries we have out there, it might be fun to add the Confederate Air Force. There actually is a Confederate Air Force which flies WWII aircraft and is based out of Texas. It has been recently re-named as the Commemorative Air Force. It would be a fun what-if though to add the Confederacy as a nation and give them American aircraft and either have them fight alongside the Union or against it.

it would be interesting to come up with a historically correct yet realistic confederate roundel. you know, instead of making the entire airplane a southern cross

What other countries are missing? I certainly can't think of any.

a quick idea for a confederate roundel to be applied to aircraft serving:
and since they would be considered "axis"....say they fly captured union aircraft (mustangs, tbolts, lightnings, etc) but with awesomely crazy luftwaffe paint schemes
maybe some "lend-lease" german/japanese aircraft as well. peanuts and cotton for aircraft. dont get me started...i love alternate history...

Perhaps we'll see some butternut aircraft fighting blue ones!

I don't know. I think that after nearly 80 years of existing next to each other, the CSA and USA might be allies. Especially considering the fact that it would be much easier for the USA to trade with the CSA then to attempt trading overseas. Besides, in a WWII with both the CSA and USA, the CSA would probably be fighting alongside the USA seeing as there would have still been strong racist feelings against Asians in the South especially seeing as there were in historical America anyways and since the South tended to lean towards a more liberal perspective, it wouldn't have exactly been best friends with Nazi Germany. The Confederacy could also have alliances with Britian and France from the Civil War extending up to WWII putting them on the Allied side. Nazi Germany would have probably tried to convince the CSA to fight the USA, but the CSA wouldn't necessairly want to since they only wanted to exist on their own, not take over the USA. That's also why there would be both a USA and a CSA. The CSA only wanted to survive, not to conqueror. It would have also probably been equipped with planes from the USA seeing as the South would probably still be behind in factories and other technology. Now, based on what happened with the roundel of South Vietnam and seeing as it would have been easier to change it like this after the lend-lease P-51's, B-17's, P-47's etc. would have arrived, I made this prospective roundel for the CAF.

That's really cool, but I still think I like my roundel's better. Then again, I really like the one on that P-80. Still though, how cool would this look.
Actually, someone might be able to combine my idea with the one on the P-80 to make a roundel with the circle of stars around the one main star and then solid red bars on the sides for WWII instead of post-war. That would look pretty cool.

Were you thinking about the Canadian Air Force ??
Well, yeah, Canada really is one of the missing countries on this game, but back in those days, the Canadian Air Force was known as the Royal Canadian Air Force ( RCAF ), we ( I'm from Canada ) were one of the first countries that declared war on Nazi Germany as soon as the Invasion of Poland started in 1939. It would probably be nice to have something like a RCAF choice for careers just like they did for Italy, especially as soon as the old Lancaster would be released, and make some missions to attack some dambs power plants, there was an entire Canadian squadron about these kind of jobs.

I found out that the CAF acutally had a roundel that was applied to the port side of it's aircraft and was apparently called flag and bars. It was the USAAF roundel with a flag instead of the star. I think it may have been the circle of stars from the star and bars flag. I couldn't find any picture of it. Can anyone else find a picture of the CAF roundel?

I found this CAF blood chit and wings.
Still haven't found the "flag-and-bar" roundel. Could somebody please help me with that?
